Valentine’s Day: credit for a night in or a night out

Updated on

When is it

This year 14 February 2026

Next year 14 February 2027

Valentine’s Day is on 14 February, and for many couples the best part is not the present but the evening. Credit turns into that evening: a takeaway from the place you always order from, a film you have both been meaning to watch, or a co-op game you play side by side. It is less about the card and more about the plan it makes possible.

For a night in, Disney+ credit covers the film, Deliveroo or Just Eat covers dinner, and a Nintendo eShop card adds a two-player game for afterwards. For gamers, PlayStation Store or Xbox credit becomes the game you finish together over the following weeks. It fits the couple who would rather stay on the sofa than queue for a table.

For a night out or a treat, an Uber card gets you both home without arguing about who drives. A Lush card becomes a bath evening. A lastminute.com card goes towards a weekend away later in the year. Each card is spent with that brand only, on its UK site or app.

Check the details before you pay. Console and app credit needs a UK account. The amounts come straight from each brand’s UK ladder in pounds, and the price bands below only show real values, so you can plan a budget without surprises at the basket.

Any service fees for gaming credit, subscriptions and gift cards are shown before payment; mobile top-ups and prepaid vouchers carry a small fee shown before you pay. After confirmed payment the code is e-mailed to you, so you can write it in a card or reveal it at dinner.

1. For the gamer

Credit for the console or game they already play. Check the platform first: PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo credit only works on a UK account of that platform. In-game currency such as Robux or V-Bucks is spent inside that one game, on the player’s own account.

2. For the student paying without a card

A prepaid voucher lets someone pay online in pounds without a bank card. Each voucher works at its own partner sites, so match it to where they want to spend. It is a common way for younger players to pay for games when nobody wants to share a parent’s card.

3. For the commuter on pay as you go

Phone credit keeps data and calls going on the train and the bus. You need the right network and the mobile number that gets the top-up. It suits anyone on pay as you go who would rather not run out of data halfway through the journey.

4. For apps, films and streams

Google Play credit on their phone or a streaming service they watch. It sits on their own account, so it has to be a UK account. It works well for someone who already pays for films, music or apps and would like a month or two covered.

5. For food, rides and treats

Gift cards for a takeaway, a taxi, clothes or a break. Each card is spent with the named brand only, on its UK site or app. These are the cards to pick when you know their favourite takeaway, shop or way of getting around.

How it works

  1. 1Pick the situation that sounds like the person and open the brand page that fits what they already use.
  2. 2Read the region rule on that page: account country, network or UK site. The currency is always pounds sterling.
  3. 3Choose one of the listed amounts. After confirmed payment the code is sent to you by e-mail, and you decide how and when to pass it on.
  4. 4Keep the e-mail until the code has been redeemed, so the person can check the code again if something goes wrong on their account.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Valentine’s present for a gamer?
Credit for their platform, or a game you can both play. Check whether they play on PlayStation, Xbox or Switch and pick that store’s credit.
Can I plan a night in with gift cards?
Yes. Combine a streaming credit such as Disney+ with a takeaway card such as Deliveroo or Just Eat, each from its own brand page.
Is a digital code a romantic present?
It can be, when it clearly links to something you will do together. Write the plan in a card with the code, rather than sending a bare e-mail.
Which amounts can I pick?
The fixed amounts each brand sells in pounds, listed on the product page. The price bands on this page only include those.
Is there a service fee?
Gift cards, subscriptions and gaming credit carry none. Mobile top-ups and prepaid vouchers carry a fee shown before you pay.
When do I receive the code?
By e-mail after confirmed payment. No delivery time is promised, so do not leave the order until the evening itself.
Does an Uber card cover Uber Eats too?
The UK Uber card is described for rides and Eats on a UK Uber account. The brand page states the rule.
Can I use Google Play credit for a film?
Store credit can be spent on films and apps within that store’s terms, on a UK account.
What if we have different platforms?
Pick credit for the platform of the person receiving it, or choose a shared service such as a streaming or takeaway card.
Can I send it anonymously?
The code comes to your e-mail, so you decide how it reaches them. Supercharge does not send it on your behalf.
