Mothering Sunday: credit for the things she enjoys

Mothering Sunday falls three weeks before Easter Sunday, so the date moves every year. Plenty of mums already have what they need at home; what they rarely get is time and a free choice. Credit gives her both: an evening of films she picks, a takeaway she does not have to cook, or a new game on the console she quietly plays after everyone has gone to bed.
Start with what she does with her time. If she reads and streams on her phone, Google Play credit covers apps, books and films. If she watches series, Disney+ credit adds months of viewing. If she plays Animal Crossing or Mario Kart with the kids, Nintendo eShop credit means she chooses the next game for once.
Treat cards work for the practical mum as well. A Lush card is spent on bath and skincare she chooses herself. A Deliveroo or Just Eat card sorts Sunday dinner. An Uber card covers a ride to see friends. Each card is spent with that brand only, on its UK site or app, so pick one she already uses.
Keep the region in mind. Google Play and console credit needs a UK account. Phone credit needs the right network and number, which is handy if she is on pay as you go. The amounts on this page come from each brand’s UK ladder in pounds, and the price bands below only show values that really exist.
Any service fees for gaming credit, subscriptions and gift cards are shown before payment; mobile top-ups and prepaid vouchers carry a small fee shown before you pay. After confirmed payment the code is sent to you by e-mail, and you decide whether it goes in a card, on the breakfast tray or in a message.
1. For the gamer
Credit for the console or game they already play. Check the platform first: PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo credit only works on a UK account of that platform. In-game currency such as Robux or V-Bucks is spent inside that one game, on the player’s own account.
2. For the student paying without a card
A prepaid voucher lets someone pay online in pounds without a bank card. Each voucher works at its own partner sites, so match it to where they want to spend. It is a common way for younger players to pay for games when nobody wants to share a parent’s card.
3. For the commuter on pay as you go
Phone credit keeps data and calls going on the train and the bus. You need the right network and the mobile number that gets the top-up. It suits anyone on pay as you go who would rather not run out of data halfway through the journey.
4. For apps, films and streams
Google Play credit on their phone or a streaming service they watch. It sits on their own account, so it has to be a UK account. It works well for someone who already pays for films, music or apps and would like a month or two covered.
5. For food, rides and treats
Gift cards for a takeaway, a taxi, clothes or a break. Each card is spent with the named brand only, on its UK site or app. These are the cards to pick when you know their favourite takeaway, shop or way of getting around.

How it works
- 1Pick the situation that sounds like the person and open the brand page that fits what they already use.
- 2Read the region rule on that page: account country, network or UK site. The currency is always pounds sterling.
- 3Choose one of the listed amounts. After confirmed payment the code is sent to you by e-mail, and you decide how and when to pass it on.
- 4Keep the e-mail until the code has been redeemed, so the person can check the code again if something goes wrong on their account.

Frequently asked questions
- When is Mothering Sunday in the UK?
- It is the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter Sunday. Because Easter moves, the date changes every year; the date box on this page shows this year and next.
- What suits a mum who has everything?
- Credit for something she already does: streaming, reading apps, a takeaway or skincare. She chooses the item, so you avoid buying something she already owns.
- Is a Lush gift card spent online or in store?
- The brand page states how the card can be redeemed. The UK card is meant for Lush in the country of purchase.
- Can I give phone credit to my mum?
- Yes, if she is on pay as you go and you know her network and number. Choose the network on the mobile top-up page and pick one of its amounts.
- Which amounts are available?
- Each brand has its own fixed amounts in pounds, listed on the product page. The price bands on this page are built from those amounts only.
- Is there a service fee?
- Not on gift cards, subscriptions or gaming credit. Mobile top-ups and prepaid vouchers carry a fee that depends on the amount, shown before you pay.
- How does she receive the present?
- The code is e-mailed to you after confirmed payment. You pass it on yourself, for example written in a card or sent in a message.
- Can I order on the Sunday itself?
- You can, but no delivery time is promised. Order when you have time to receive the e-mail, check the code and hand it over.
- Does a Disney+ card work on an existing subscription?
- The Disney+ page explains how the credit is applied and that it is for UK residents. Check it against how she currently pays for the service.
